Anuradha Sharma’s family is originally from India. Her parents migrated to US to pursue their higher education. Both parents, with careers in teaching and research lead a quiet life associated with academia profession. But nonetheless, their spirit of adventure, love for travel and genuine interest in other cultures motivated them to take on career opportunities in different parts of the world.
Anuradha grew up to appreciate education as a form of universalism. At a very young age, she found music to have a universal quality and found it to be the most effective means of, not only understanding a culture but also becoming part of it and participating in it.
“Music is an account of a country’s history!’ she says “If you listen carefully to each musical element within any song, you will find influences of the local culture.’ And by listening to the lyrics, you will understand the heart of the culture. In lyrics people express what they would not express in everyday language. From the lyrics you will understand a culture’s popular concepts, beliefs and their general point of view.”
The blend of classical arts and popular music became the foundation of Anuradha’s music education. She earned a BS in Applied Mathematics and MS is Materials Engineering. Along with her formal education, her innate interest in music manifested in several ways.
She learned to play the acoustic guitar while studying Bossa Nova and popular Brazilian ballads. She also took voice lessons in American Musical Theater and Italian classical. She began piano in college but very quickly found the electronic keyboard to be her most plausible means of expressing music.
Her distinctive style resembles New Age with a bounce of Pop, plus hints of regional influences from around the world. In coherence to the phenomena of indie music explosion in all genres, Anuradha created a new subgenre of electronic music with her unique combination of soft melodies and contrasting beats. Her preference to melodic approach versus chord progression gives her the freedom to compose in an improvisational style, thus giving the ‘feel’ of music higher priority over pure theory of music. Her intuitive musicianship blended with semi-classical motifs, guides her through her improvisational style of composing, making her music appealing to a wide range of audiences.
As for plans for the future, Anuradha states;” I would like to add lyrics to my music which explores the deep human emotions, common to all people, from all cultures but expressed in the simplest words possible, ...something appropriate for our fast paced world.”
